We had bad weather today...thunderstorms & tornadoes. When it rains, we leave the doors open to catch a breeze, some fresh air & also, if necessary, to hear the weather alert sirens. David & I were watching the 50th running of the Daytona 500 (NASCAR), and I felt the pressure drop in the air...it's a weird feeling, but after living in a mobile home for the majority of my life, I've become attuned to that feeling. So I get up to shut the doors & I see it...the tornado, racing down the street above ours. It plucked an attic vent out of a house, leaving a huge hole, toppled a trampoline like it was a leaf in a slight breeze, crashed through some fences, and all I could do was stand there, mouth open. I wasn't scared...I was in AWE.
The whole experience lasted about 10 seconds. Debris of all sorts was scattered about; plywood from the torn attics, shingles from roof tops, insulation plastered EVERYWHERE. Our little neighborhood was lucky. Some families in Millbrook were not as fortunate, losing cars and even houses. Parts of Prattville were left in ruins. Stores leveled, cars toppled and left twisted. The amazing thing is no one was seriously injured or killed. Looking at pictures of the devastation left by this
EF-3 tornado, I am left very humbled and extremely grateful.
